About Us

We’re a community-driven food pantry,
Dedicated to combating hunger and promoting food security.

Our Story - A Community United Against Hunger

It all began in 2010 when the United Methodist Church’s mission committee was looking for a way to serve our community, and members learned that food was the greatest need.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Inc. opened our doors on Jan. 22, 2011 in the United Methodist Church, at 30 Carew St., where we now serve about 150 families a month. We provide between six to eight days of food each month for each household member with support from food drives, fundraising, and the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. Fresh vegetables from the Food Pantry Garden (our space within the South Hadley Community Garden) are available in season. Our pantry also provides personal care products, household products, and dog and cat food when available.

The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts is a member of Feeding America, a national network of more than 200 food banks, and we are proud to be a memberof our local Food Bank. Please note that cash goes a long way; your $1 donation will provide 3 meals through the generosity and support of The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.

Our Vision

Our vision is a world where no one goes to bed hungry. We dream of a community where everyone has access to nutritious food, irrespective of their social or economic status. We envision a society that understands the importance of food security and takes collective responsibility to ensure it. Our vision extends beyond just providing meals – we aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to achieve long-term food security.

Our Mission

Our mission is multi-faceted. Firstly, we strive to provide immediate relief to those facing hunger by offering nutritious meals in a dignified manner. Secondly, we aim to raise awareness about food insecurity and its implications, rallying the community to join our cause. Lastly, our mission includes advocating for sustainable solutions to hunger, focusing on policy changes and initiatives that can lead to a world free from hunger. We believe in the power of community, transparency, and efficiency to maximize the impact of every effort and donation. We invite you to join us in this mission, for together, we can create a hunger-free world.
